CaraMELized Restaurant

CaraMELized Restaurant is on Route 11 near the south end of Woodstock, Virginia. I had the opportunity to eat there this past Friday evening (8/7/15) for dinner.

The CaraMELized Restaurant is owned and operated by Mel Shtanko, a retired Marine Corporal. The restaurant has changed hands many times over the past few decades, and at one point was actually owned by Mel’s parents, but I have never seen it as busy at is has been in the past year.

This weekend after intending to for so long, I finally got the chance to stop in for a meal. Even as busy as the restaurant was, parking wasn’t a problem and I was able to park near the door. Within a few seconds of entering, I was greeted and seated. One of the things that impressed me most was that, even when busy, there were enough waiters and waitresses to prevent customers from needing to wait. I am a fan of club sandwiches so, if I visit someplace new and they have them, it’s what I ordered.

The waiter brought out my sandwich within a few minutes, along with the included fries. I wasn’t expecting the sandwich to be so large, but it was a double-decker, thick-sliced, turkey club. CaraMELized definitely knows how to fix a sandwich. Unfortunately, I was so full from the sandwich and fries, that I didn’t have room for dessert; I understand they have really good pie.

CaraMELized Restaurant will definitely be on my list of restaurants to frequent in Woodstock. I’m glad to find home-cooked food, at a decent price, in a restaurant that’s open for dinner. Short of a fast-food chain, there aren’t many small restaurants in the Woodstock area that are open in the evening hours. I’m glad to have found one with good food!
